New playground opens in Dublin

Dublin, 6 February 1915 - A new playground has opened at the top of Constitution Hill in Dublin, beside the Broadstone Terminus of the Midland and Great Western Railway.

The vacant land was given by the railway company and transformed into playgrounds by men employed by the Mansion House Committee for the Prevention and Relief of Distress. One playground is for boys over 12 and the other is for the use of children in general. A third area is to be used to teach boys and girls how to raise flowers and vegetables.

The playground was opened by the Lord Lieutenant who was greeted by a little girl named Frances Murtagh with an address of welcome on behalf of the children for whose benefit the new facility was established.
