Dublin Castle to be used as emergency hospital

Dublin, 1 December 1914 - A largely-attended public meeting held at the Mansion House in Dublin has supported the conversion of the State Apartments at Dublin Castle into an emergency hospital for wounded soldiers.

The hospital will be run by the City of Dublin Branch of the Red Cross Society. Lady Aberdeen told the meeting that it was also hoped to develop extra hospital space for sick and wounded soldiers in the Phoenix Park and in disused houses around Dublin.
