Man who attended famous Dan Donnelly fight dies at 110

12 March 1915 - A man who attended the famous fight between the Irish pugilist Dan Donnelly and his English opponent George Cooper at the Curragh in Kildare in 1818 died this week at the age of 110.

John Shintall, of Portarlington, Queen’s County, was a spectator at the fight which lasted eleven rounds in front of 20,000 people on a piece of ground which was subsequently renamed Donnelly’s Hollow.
