Huge crowds visit exhibition in Dublin

Published: 17 July 1914

The opening day of the Civic Exhibition in Dublin drew more than 9,000 people through the turnstiles to see the many attractions on view.

As well as the industrial, agricultural and commercial displays, there were sections relating to civic life such as town-planning, housing, garden cities and health. Children from schools all across the city attended the exhibition and took part in numerous amusements, including cinema, dancing in the ballroom and the playground.

The exhibition was officially opened yesterday by the Lord Lieutenant. In his address, Lord Aberdeen read a note from King George stating that the endeavour had his full sympathy and that he hoped it 'may result in an improvement of the housing conditions, not only in Dublin, but throughout Ireland'.
