‘Your life or your money!’

Three men carry out armed robbery in Mayo

13 March 1915 - A rate collector has been robbed of £428 outside Ballina in Co. Mayo. Three men - one of whom was armed with a gun - held up Thomas Igoe, saying: ‘Your life or your money!’

The men grabbed a bag of money and disappeared, with one shouting back: ‘The County Council took this money from the poor and the war going on. But they’ll do no more of it this year!’
