Prolonged drought feared
While the fine weather of early August has been good for those lucky enough to be enjoying their holidays, there are fears that the lack of rainfall will lead to a prolonged drought across the country. Both farmers and many urban authorities are expressing their fears that the lack of rain will soon reach crisis point.
Reservoirs are not refilling as there has been little rain to speak of for a number of weeks. Many remote villages are reporting problems with local water supplies, and farmers are bemoaning the lack of rain that is required to ensure a good harvest.
