Increase in emigration figures since 1912

According to an official return 30,967 emigrated from Ireland in 1913, an increase of 1,623 since 1912. The number of emigrants for 1913 is below the average for any decennial period for which records are available.

The number of emigrants per population was greatest in Connaught with 11.2 per cent leaving the province. Nearly 85 per cent of those who left in 1913 were between 15 and 35 years of age. Over half of those who left went to America and just over 5000 of them had their journey paid for by someone in America.
