Fierce fighting in Mexico

Published: 2 January 1914

A three day attack by the rebel forces at Ojinaga has left Federal forces on the verge of fleeing to American territory.

It is estimated that at least 1,000 men on both sides have been killed or wonded so far in the conflict in Mexico. A telegram sent from Presidio in Texas described the horrific scenes. Men were seen wading across the river into the United States, many half-naked, crying with the pain and stooping to drink the muddy water.

Upon crossing the border, the American troops promptly disarmed the Mexian forces and sent them back into Mexico, despite desperate protests.

In related news, another battle for the possession of Nuevo Laredo has left 200 men dead.
