Crisis in Mexico continues
President Huerta’s collapse is now thought to be only days away. His generals are deserting him, his soldiers are unpaid and the Constitutionalists have been able to prevent the oil companies from supplying oil to the railways, all of which are run with oil engines.
The Constitutionalists are now in control of the entire northern half of the country and are fast closing in around Mexico City. Many Federal generals have resigned and the army has become disorganised while the Constitutionalists are keeping good order in the states they control. However, they are continuing to levy contributions and seize provisions and say they will only continue to do so until Huerta is out. The Constitutionalists have the support of US president Woodrow Wilson in their cause, who is also calling for the resignation of Huerta.
The crisis in Mexico, which has been heating up in the last year, has been ongoing since 1910.
