Russians urged to drink less

Published: 21 October 1914

Moves are afoot to encourage Russians to drink less. Currently, it is estimated that 90% of workmen spend all of the weekend celebrating their freedom from work by drinking large quantities of vodka and whiskey.

The government of Russia is heavily dependent on revenue from the sale of alcohol so it is as yet unclear how effective any measures to restrict the consumption of alcohol will be.
