Severe defeat for Germans in Russia
Reports from Paris say the German army which General Rennekampf had drawn over the Russian border has sustained a severe defeat. The Russians have reoccupied Soldan, a Prussian city about eight miles from the Russian frontier. The Germans are evacuating East Prussia to reinforce the Kalisch-Thorn line.
The Paris correspondent says, ‘There is no longer the slightest doubt that the German plan of campaign has been radically changed, and that while maintaining a defensive in the west they are concentrating large forces for an attack on Russia. the number of German troops in East Prussia is now nearly 600,000 men and this number is being increased daily.’
