New paintings hung in the National Gallery

Dublin, 19 December 1914 -  There has been a great expansion in the number of paintings on view in the National Gallery due to the efforts of the director, Sir Hugh Lane.

Recent months have seen the development of a new Late Italian Room, which showcases paintings by Pannini and Piazzetta. Spanish masters such as El Greco, Goya, Espinosa and others also hang in a newly-developed room.

This reordering by Sir Hugh has invigorated the institution, with even paintings long-owned by the Gallery assuming a new significance by virtue of redesigned display.
