New Lord Mayor of Dublin dies suddenly
Glasnevin, 1 February 1915 - The Lord Mayor-elect of Dublin, Alderman John Clancy, was buried today in Glasnevin Cemetery, after he died in his home in Clontarf on 19 Jan. Huge crowds of people turned out to play their respects to Ald. Clancy who had been elected to the Lord Mayoralty only last week. A guard of honour was provided by the Irish Volunteers.
Although he had been in declining health for several years, Ald. Clancy was a popular choice as Lord Mayor and will be remembered as being the principal inspiration behind the construction of Tara Street Swimming Baths and the Children’s Playground in Clontarf.
