Irish teachers demand war bonus
Dublin, 11 October 1916 - Irish national school teachers are demanding increased as a ‘war bonus’.
The demands came at a meeting of national school teachers held in
the Mansion House in Dublin which was organised under the auspices
of Co. Dublin Teachers’ Association. Teachers have
repeatedly argued that their salaries are much too meagre in view
of the price inflation caused by the war.
There is broad sympathy for their position, not least because
teachers in Ireland have never been adequately paid and the
education system, in general, is considered to be starved of
resources.
