Heatwave for Ireland
Ireland basked in glorious summer sunshine yesterday as the appalling weather of recent weeks gave way to glorious sunshine.
In Dublin, temperatures climbed to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32° C) in the city centre, although it was cooler along the coast.
It has been a relatively warm month with average temperatures of 65 degrees (18 °C). (Image: National Archives of Ireland CSO RP 1914, 11227)
The warmest place in the country was Co. Clare, where a temperature of 100 degrees (37 °C) was recorded in Kilkee.
