Severe weather throughout the country

Reports from many parts of the country, especially the Midlands and the basins of the Shannon and the Suir show that the flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall is assuming alarming proportions. In some places the land is under water for miles, while the roadways are impassable.

Great damage has been caused to property and in a number of areas the houses are flooded to such an extent that the residents are practically kept prisoner in their homes.

Meanwhile, many other parts of the country are experiencing extreme weather, such as severe frost in Dublin and heavy snowfall in Wicklow, Kildare and Carlow. There is said to be nine inches of snow on the ground in some parts.
