General Victoriano Huerta has resigned as President of Mexico.

General Huerta previously led a coup to overthrow the regime of Francisco Madero. Shortly after Huerta assumed office last year, Madero was taken to prison and then shot.

The regime established by General Huerta was a deeply unpopular military dictatorship. Defeats to a rebel army led by Pancho Villa has led to increasing pressure on the regime and has eventually forced General Huerta’s resignation.

Rebel leader, Pancho Villa, has reportedly declared that he would much rather the general had remained until he could get his hands on him.
