Captain Scott’s last expedition
The tragic story of Captain P.F. Scott’s expedition to the South Pole has been published in two volumes in London. The first volume consists of entries Captain Scott made in his journal and the second volume is made up of the accounts of the expedition by other members of the travelling team. The disaster that overtook the expedition and the terrible agony of Scott’s last moments offer fascinating reading.
Even in their moment of triumph on reaching the North Pole, there was foreboding of what lay ahead. Amidst appalling weather, Scott wrote: ‘Now for the run home and a desperate struggle. I wonder if we can do it?’
