Myles Dungan presents an episode of RTÉ's History Show focusing on the Battle of the Somme.
First Louise Denvir reports from Glasnevin Cemetery where a new memorial was unveiled to commemorate Irish lives lost on French soil, including those lost at the Somme
Then Myles moderates a discussion with historian and teacher Philip Orr, Jennifer Wellington (UCD), Lar Joye curator of the National Museum of Ireland and Conor Mulvagh revisit the battle and remember some of those who died there.
The show also includes items featuring Jennifer Johnston - author of the novel 'How Many Miles to Babylon'; and Nigel McFadzean - grandnephew of Billy McFadzean who has been immortalised in loyalist murals as embodying the spirit of the 36th (Ulster) division.
