Woman Arrested for Drowning 3 Month Old

Anne Hickey, of Ruddock’s Lane, Tullamore, was arrested and charged with the capital offence of murdering her daughter, Anne, by drowning her in the Grand Canal. The infant’s father James, told the inquest that his wife was ‘a little bit touched in the head’ and that she had been admitted to hospital a short while ago. Dr Morehead, also addressing the inquest, stated his belief that the woman had not been fit to care for a child.
