Train derailed in Killiney

Published: 29 January 1914

Today an attempt was made to wreck a train on the Dublin and South Eastern Railway between Bray and Killiney after a stone was placed on the track. The damage caused was slight, however, and there were no injuries.

The incident occurred when the train had got within half a mile of Killiney and the leading wheels of the engine left the rails and smashed the chairs and sleepers for about 150 yards before the train could be pulled up. As there is only a single line between Bray and Killiney the traffic was held up, but breakdown gangs were quick to the scene and they succeeded in getting the line clear quickly.

When the police investigated the scene they said they had no doubt that the stone was placed on the line with malicious intent but currently have no indication of who the perpetrator might be.
