Tipperary win Croke Memorial Cup

Published: 1 June 1913

A large crowd gathered in Dungarvan today to watch the final of the Croke Memorial Cup. It was reported that this was the largest crowd ever gathered in Dungarvan for a game, and that many supporters failed to gain entry to the ground, such was the volume of people attempting to do so. Tipperary opened the scoring after two minutes, and despite Kilkenny keenly contesting the competition, there was no way back for them. As one reporter noted, ‘Kilkenny’s play was picturesque, more picturesque than useful.’ In the end the younger men of Tipperary dominated the game, and ran out winners 5-4 to 1-1.
