The marriage of Prince Arthur of Connaught and the Duchess of Fife took place today in the Chapel Royal of St James’ Palace. Immense crowds gathered in nearby streets to watch the wedding party arrive, and notable attendees included the Prime Minster, the Crown Prince of Greece and the King and Queen.

The bridegroom, the Duke of Connaught, arrived with his best man, the Prince of Wales, while the bride was accompanied by the King. Those lucky enough to be in attendance described the scene inside the Chapel as ‘gorgeous’. The reception was held in the State Rooms afterwards, and it is reported that the couple will honeymoon at a residence of Mr Waldorf Astor in Harrow.

The couple received 517 gifts, with an estimated value of £300,000. Prince Arthur is a grandson of Queen Victoria. The Duchess of Fife, now the Princess Alexandra, is the granddaughter of King Edward VII.
