Riots in aftermath of Franz Ferdinand’s assassination
The anti-Serbian riots arising out of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand lasted until martial law was declared today. The mob wrecked property everywhere, including private dwellings. The Hotel Europe and the Imperial Hotel were also destroyed in the chaos.

Martial law was declared after shots were fired and the violence increased and spread throughout the city. Communication lines across the city have also been cut.
