Outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in England

The Irish Department of Agriculture has officially confirmed that the importation of all cattle, sheep, goats, deer and swine has been supspended following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease on a farm in East Sussex.

The English Board of Agriculture has stated that the disease was first discovered on the farm in Irish cattle that were brought over from Roscrea and Limerick. As yet they have avoided categoricaly stating that the outbreak was of Irish origin.

Veterinary surgeons have been instructed to travel to Roscrea and Limerick to investigate the condition of cattle in these areas.
