Limerick defeat Tipperary to win Hurling Shield

In a tight game, where the hurling was of the highest order and described as both athletic and scientific, Limerick held on to defeat Tipperary. In victory they claimed the Hurling Shield and medals that had been presented by the Thousand Fein Committee. At the heart of everything that Limerick did was their captain, Tyler Mackey, and such was the public acclaim for his performance that the crowd carried him shoulder high around the pitch. The game attracted one of the largest and most enthusiastic crowds to the grounds in recent years, and gate receipts amounted to £215. The final score was Limerick 4-0, Tipperary 3-1.
