Large Crowd Gathers to Honour Wolfe Tone
A Piper’s Band led a crowd estimated at 2,000 people from Sallins railway station to Bodenstown Churchyard in Co. Kildare to honour the memory of Wolfe Tone. A large number of women in suffrage colours were notable in the procession. Mr T Clarke introduced Mr PH Pearse who gave the oration. Pearse said there were thousands of young people who wanted the Ireland that Tone had wished for, one that was free, a separate nation owing its allegiance to no one. He asked the crowd to pledge themselves to fight until Tone’s principles were attained.
