King’s birthday is celebrated with grandeur

Published: 22 June 1914

The occasion of the King’s birthday was celebrated in Dublin today with the usual manifestations of loyalty. Flags flew from public buildings and business. While the law courts and government buildings recognised the day as a holiday, shops were open as usual. The main feature of the celebrations was the review led by the Lord Lieutenant of the Dublin garrison. About 2,000 troops paraded and the view was spectacular.

There were also celebrations in the Curragh and in Kingstown.

In London there was a trooping of the colours. His Majesty wore the uniform of the Grenadier Guards and was mounted on his famous Indian charger, Delhi. The Prime Minister and members of the Royal Family were also present.
