Irish Art Exhibition Opens in London
The Whitechapel Gallery was the venue for today’s opening of the Irish Art show, and it is estimated that 2,000 people were in attendance. A big attraction is the portrait of Jonathan Swift by Charles Jervas. The painting is owned by Oxford University, and the Convocation only agreed three days ago to allow it to go on display. Another impressive painting, Portrait of Mrs Charles Hamilton by her daughter, Eva Hamilton, is also on display.
