Funeral of Bachelors Walk shooting victims takes place

Published: 29 July 1914

The remains of the three victims of the shootings in Bachelors Walk last week were removed today amidst scenes of the most impressive character from the Pro-Cathedral for interment in Glasnevin cemetery.

Tens of thousands of people witnessed the removal and it was said to be one of the largest funeral corteges that had passed through Dublin within the present generation. Many businesses closed throughout the city for the funeral and enormous crowds lined the route of the procession, particularly along O’Connell Street.

A striking feature of the procession was the presence of a body of Irish Volunteers carrying rifles, the men were enthusiastically cheered when they arrived to take up their position in the procession.
