Collapse of coal strike in London

Published: 28 January 1914

Today brought the news of the collapse of the London coal porters' strike and the return to work of a large number of affected men. This news has somewhat eased the industrial tensions existent in London during the past week.

The President of the Coal Porters' Union informed the press today that all men returned to work where firms had conceded their demands and that several other firms had agreed to the increase in the men’s wages. The majority of the men returned to work today with the rest expected to follow in the coming days.

The attention of the public has now been turned to the building trade upheaval in which tensions are growing and could see up to 60,000 men affected.
