Bumper Christmas publication on the way

Published: 21 November 1913

It’s that time of year again when all the major weekly newspapers and magazines unveil their Christmas bumper edition.

Leading the way this year, and launched today, is the double issue of the Irish Weekly Independent, which its publisher claimed is the biggest ever. It will feature paintings  by Charles A Mills, including his charming ‘At Christmas Time in Ireland’, as well as short stories by Ethna Carbery, Katharine Tynan, Alice Furlong, DM Lenihan, Brian O’Higgins, and Padraic Burss.

There is also a beautiful Irish song by Alicia Adelaide Needham and a play by Patrick Kelly. The issue is expected to sell out quickly and is available at the cost of three pence.

Century Ireland

The Century Ireland project is an online historical newspaper that tells the story of the events of Irish life a century ago.
