British man executed in Mexico

Mr W.H. Benton, a British subject, was today executed by firing squad in Mexico. Benton had been accused of making a threat against the life of the revolutionary leader, General Villa.

It is said that Mr Benton and the General had known each other with the former having moved to Mexico 25 years ago.

Mr Benton was courtmartialled on charges of conspiracy and of provoking and insulting General Villa. He was quickly found guilty and executed soon after.

The killing is said to have caused great unease among other foreingers in Mexico.

Mr. Bryan , the United States Secretary of State, has ordered an investigation into the execution.
