Jeff Smith defeats Jimmy Clabby in Sydney

Published: 5 June 1914

In Sydney today, before 18,000 people Jeff Smith (11st 2lbs) defeated Jimmy Clabby (10st 3lbs) on points in 20 rounds for the middle-weight championship.

Smith showed himself as superior in both in and out fighting and was remarkably clever in defence, neutralising the effect of Clabby’s left leads by right-crosses. He was also particularly successful with his straight lefts and his short jolts to face, while his body blows landed more cleanly than Clabby’s.
