William Martin Murphy honoured by Dublin Chamber of Commerce

Dublin, 5 February 1915 - Dublin businessman William Martin Murphy has been honoured by 410 leading representatives of trade, commerce and the professions from across Ireland under the auspices of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

The presentation included a life-size portrait painted by William Orpen and an address signed by the representatives. In the Irish Independent's report on the event, it is noted that special reference was made to Mr Murphy's work for the whole community during the course of the labour troubles in Dublin in 1913.

In a speech responding to the presentation, Mr Murphy thanked all those who had been associated with him in his many enterprises and said that endeavours in Ireland should never prevent Irishmen from extending their business interests abroad.
