Belfast is bedecked with Union Jacks and other flags today as the city’s unionists celebrate Ulster Day.

Sir Edward Carson arrived in the city, accompanied by the Conservative leader Andrew Bonar Law. Accompanying Sir Edward was his new wife Lady Carson, and the couple received extensive congratulations and presentations from local Orangemen.

A meeting of the Ulster Council pledged absolute unionist support for the war effort and reiterated the determination never under any circumstances to submit to Home Rule.
