Suffragette throws ball at Queen
Edinburgh, 19 July 1914 - A small rubber ball was thrown at the Queen while travelling in the Royal carriage in Edinburgh today. She was travelling to a morning service with King George and their daughter Princess Mary in St Gile’s Cathedral, Edinburgh when the incident took place.
When their majesties had almost reached the cathedral a young woman, breaking through the crowd and the line of police, threw a small rubber ball into the carriage. Attached to the ball was a message to protest against forcible feeding, the ball landed on the Queen’s lap and she brushed it aside.
The woman, who is thought to be apart of the suffragette movement was taken to the police station and detained.
