Sales of novels collapse as newspaper sales soar

Published: 8 October 1914

Sales of newspapers in Ireland have soared since the outbreak of the war. In fact, sales of the Irish Independent have reached an all-time high.

By contrast, sales of novels, essays, belles lettres and other forms of literature have collapsed; the only books selling in numbers are ones which relate to the war.
