Poem in honour of Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa
Skibereen, 10 July 1915 - The Southern Star has published a poem written in honour of Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa, the Fenian leader who died last week in a New York hospital after a long illness. It was written by a Mrs Burke:
Alas! He’s gone, he’ll toil no more
For Erin’s rightful cause,
For he died upon a foreign shore,
Where he earned much applause.
Full fifty weary years or more,
An exile brave was he,
Who struggled hard with tongue and pen
In quest of liberty.
