Large crowds attend Dublin Spring Show

TAGS

Dublin, 17 May 1923 - The opening day of the Spring Show attracted a record attendance to the RDS in Ballsbridge, yesterday.

Despite intermittent and heavy showers of rain and hail, the annual Agricultural Show attracted a crowd of 5,005, up from 4,479 in 1922 and 4,940 in 1921.

Similarly, the number of entries are up on last year by 151, the total of 929 greatly helped by the increased entries for the horse jumping and other competitions which are a feature of the programme that will run over three days.

Among the distinguished visitors to the Spring Show’s first day were the Governor General, Mr. Timothy Healy, who arrived by motor car with his aide-de-camp, Major-General Cullen. The Governor General was met on arrival by Mr. E. Bohane, Director, and Lord Rathdonnell, President of the RDS. While the latter brought Mr. Healy on a tour of the grounds, Mr. Bohane remained on hand to receive both President William T. Cosgrave and the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Patrick Hogan.

Abuzz with activity and filled with agricultural cattle, goats, pigs, sheep and horses, the competitions and displays of agricultural machinery and implements remain key attractions of the show.
