Japan declares war on Germany
Japan has declared war on Germany.
The Emperor of Japan has said that the activities of Germany in the Far East, including ‘warlike preparations’ that threaten Japanese commerce, were the cause of the war, as well as their desire to stand by their British ally.
The Emperor issued a statement that read: ‘We hereby declare war against Germany, and we command our Army and Navy to carry on hostilities against that Empire with all their strength.’
The statement concludes: ‘It is our earnest wish that peace may soon be restored and the glory of the Empire be enhanced.’
