Irish farmers must switch to tillage

Dublin, 14 November 1914 - Irish farmers should switch to tillage to meet the shortages that will certainly manifest themselves across Europe in 1915, claimed Charles A. Stanuell last night.

Mr. Stanuell was presenting a paper at the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society last night entitled ‘The Effect of the War upon Irish Agriculture’ when he urged Irish farmers to abandon their passion for cattle-watching in favour of tillage.

This, he said, would allow them to take advantage of the high prices which will surely follow the increased demand brought about by the war.
