Huge fire on Grafton Street

Published: 28 October 1914

A huge fire continues to rage this morning on Grafton Street. Last night the premises of Messrs. Anderson, Stanford and Ridgeway at 28-29 Grafton Street was engulfed by flames. The store of carpets, linoleum, blinds, curtains and furniture was entirely destroyed and the fire spread backwards onto South Anne Street and Lemon Street.

Fire brigade units from across Dublin rushed to the scene, but struggled to contain the fire as the roof fell in. There were fears that a nearby motor garage, where there were great quantities of petrol for sale, would go on fire, but fortunately this was avoided.

There are no reports of any fatalities.
