Growing militarisation in Europe
Newspapers across Europe are reporting an increasingly sharp exchange of views on the militarisation of the continent.
Responding to German views that its military might is unchallenged, French and Russian papers have rejected what they term ‘German menace’ and have underlined the increased military capabilities of both their own countries.
There is significant comment that Russia has moved beyond focusing on defensive capabilities, and that France’s expenditure on armaments has put it in a much stronger position.
