German prisoners arrive in Dublin
Eighteen German prisoners were transported to Dublin today from Belfast. The prisoners were brought by train and arrived at Amiens Street Railway Station. They were then escorted by a detachment from the Royal Irish Rifles and are currently being held at the Royal Barracks in Kilmainham.
Irish Command Orders, dated 20 August 1914, include a note that the Detention Barracks at Arbour Hill in Dublin are to be temporarily used to house prisoners of war. Click for full document. (Image: National Archives of Ireland, CSO/RP 1914, 14489)
It is expected that the prisoners will be moved shortly to Templemore in Co. Tipperary.
