There were extraordinary scenes at the Fair Day in Bailieboro, Co. Cavan, in which up to 200 people were involved in an affray in the town. Considerable quantities of alcohol appear to have been consumed before disturbances began. Some men brandished sticks, while others threw punches and kicks.

Four men from Co. Meath - Bernard and John Finnegan, Michael Moore and Patrick Tulle - were imprisoned for a month in Dundalk jail for their part in the incidents, while other men were fined 21s for fighting.
