Eviction in Kilkenny
Forty-five police, under the command of District-Inspector Lowndes and Head-Constable McClean marched to Clara, Co. Kilkenny yesterday to enforce the eviction of three orphans.
The Nolan children lived in a thatched cottage owned by the landlord, Mr. Clark, of Kingstown, Dublin and they had been involved in a dispute for some time.
The arrival of the police brought 400 local people to the scene and, amidst scenes of dismay, the cabin was broken into.
The three children, aged 13, 11 and 10, were brought out from the cabin - all were in tears. A public meeting later that evening was addressed by local clergy who condemned the landlord for his actions.
