A Corkman has killed his wife, three children and himself. William Mullanny, from Maylor Street in Cork City, early yesterday morning shot dead his wife Abina, his two daughters Lizzie (19) and Dolly (18), and his son Paul (9). Mr. Mullanny then turned his revolver on himself and committed suicide. A former shoemaker, he had not worked for a considerable time.

Two other children seem to have escaped from the house and have told police that the family had lived in fear of their father. A week ago, Mullanny was bound to the peace for threatening his wife. Two policemen called to the house on that occasion and, at the request of Mrs Mullanny, searched the premises for firearms, but could not find any.

An inquest, which opened yesterday evening, concluded that the crimes were committed while the father was insane.
