Democratic candidate accuses Republicans of trying to buy the American presidency

Washington, 27 August 1920 - The Democratic candidate for President of the United States, James Cox, has made a stinging attack on his Republican opponent, Warren G. Harding.

Governor Cox has alleged that the Republicans have amassed a campaign war chest of $15 million.

Speaking in Princetown, Indiana, Governor Cox, who is looking to replace his own party’s incumbent, Woodrow Wilson, commented that the remarkable sums of money were being contributed to the Republican cause by selfish, greedy interests who were, in effect, looking to buy the presidency.
