Conscription passed into law in Britain

Westminster, 26 January 1916 - The Military Service Bill passed through the House of Commons today amid regret that Ireland was not included.

Lord Lansdowne told the House that he regretted that Ireland, as represented in the Commons by the Irish Parliamentary Party, had not shown her willingness to be included in the Bill. Lord Willoughby agreed and said that Ireland’s action in this emergency should not be forgotten when the question of self-government came up for final settlement after the war.
